What is Reflexology?
Reflexology is a gentle, holistic therapy that supports the body’s natural ability to restore balance and wellbeing. It works in harmony with conventional medicine and is widely used as a complementary therapy to promote relaxation, reduce stress and encourage the body’s own healing responses.
Rooted in the principles of traditional Chinese, Egyptian and Indian medicine, reflexology involves the application of precise hand and finger pressure to specific reflex points on the feet and hands. These points correspond to different areas and systems of the body.
By stimulating these reflex points, reflexology helps to encourage the flow of energy throughout the body, release blockages and promote deep relaxation and balance. Treatments use a variety of techniques, including rubbing, kneading, targeted pressure and gentle joint rotations, all carried out in a calm and comfortable environment.
Visual reflexology may also be used for learning, assessment and explanation alongside hands-on treatment, helping clients to better understand the therapy. While reflexology does not diagnose or treat medical conditions, it can be safely used alongside conventional healthcare and is not intended to replace medical advice or treatment.
Benefits of Reflexology
Promotes Relaxation
Reflexology promotes relaxation by activating specific points on the feet (or hand) correlated to stress reduction and mood enhancement. By stimulating these areas, reflexology can alleviate symptoms of depression and anxiety, and induce a state of deep relaxation, fostering a sense of calm and tranquility.
Lowers Blood Pressure
By targeting reflex points associated with cardio vascular function, foot reflexology techniques have been shown to aid in the management and control of hypertension, effectively assisting individuals in mitigating the risk associated with high blood pressure.
Improves Blood Circulation
Reflexology serves as a catalyst for improving blood circulation throughout the body. Through the application of precise pressure, strokes and therapeutic techniques, this practice facilitates the flow of the blood to vital organs, enhancing their functionality and promoting optimal physiological processes.
Relieves Pain and Tension
Reflexology is renowned for its ability to relieve pain and tension in various parts of the body. Whether it is headaches, neck pain, migraines or backaches, reflexology techniques offer relief by targeting corresponding reflex points, thereby alleviating discomfort and promoting physical wellbeing.
Promotes Better Sleep
Reflexology serves as a natural remedy for promoting better sleep patterns. By incorporating a Reflexology massage into one's bedtime routine, individuals can experience improved sleep quality and duration. The relaxation induced by reflexology facilitates the transition into a restful state, allowing for a rejuvenating night’s sleep and enhanced overall health.
Improves Digestion
Digestive discomfort is often linked not only to what we eat, but also to stress, tension and the nervous system. Reflexology offers a gentle, holistic approach that may help support digestive wellbeing by encouraging deep relaxation and balance within the body. By working on specific reflex points related to the digestive system, reflexology can help ease discomfort, reduce bloating and promote a greater sense of internal harmony, supporting overall health and wellbeing.
Pre and Post Natal Support
Pregnancy and early parenthood bring significant physical and emotional changes to the body. Reflexology provides a gentle and deeply relaxing therapy that supports wellbeing during pregnancy and after birth. By encouraging relaxation, reducing tension and promoting balance, reflexology can help ease common discomforts, support emotional wellbeing and provide valuable time for rest and restoration during this important stage of life.

SERVICES
-
Foot reflexology is a natural, specialised treatment that focuses on reflex points in the feet which correspond to organs, glands and systems of the body. By relieving tension and encouraging balance, reflexology supports the body’s natural healing processes. It is often used for similar concerns as acupuncture, but without the use of needles.
-
A soothing reflexology session helps calm the nervous system and guides the body into a parasympathetic “rest and digest” state, encouraging deep relaxation and stress relief.
This treatment can be combined with Indian Head Massage to ease tension, relieve stress-related headaches and support overall emotional wellbeing.
-
Reflexology is commonly used as a complementary therapy to help manage pain by reducing muscle tension, stress and the body’s perception of discomfort.
Where appropriate, Electromagnetic Stimulation Therapy (EMS) may be incorporated into the session. EMS uses gentle electrical pulses applied to the skin to create mild muscle contractions, helping to relieve acute or chronic pain. A combined reflexology and EMS session offers targeted support for both the body and feet.
-
These tailored treatments focus on specific reflex points on the feet and hands that relate to the digestive system. Reflexology may be combined with personalised guidance on nutrition and supplements to support digestive health and overall wellbeing.
This holistic approach aims to reduce discomfort, support healthy digestion and promote long-term balance.
About Rupa
My journey into reflexology began in the early 1990s after seeing the positive impact it had on a close family member managing the side effects of Parkinson’s medication. This experience inspired me to train as a reflexologist.
I qualified with distinction in 1992 at The British School of Reflexology and have been practising ever since. I am a member of both The British School of Reflexology and the Association of Reflexologists.
Alongside reflexology, I hold a Master’s degree in Medicinal Chemistry and Biochemistry and have worked in the pharmaceutical industry, giving me a strong understanding of the body and the effects of medication. I also hold an NVQ Level 3 in Teaching and have taught reflexology at The British School of Reflexology and adult education colleges.
I continue to develop my practice through advanced training, including Visual Reflexology, Foot Reading and Electromagnetic Stimulation (EMS), which supports pain relief alongside reflexology.
As a professional mobile therapist, I bring treatments directly to your home, creating a calm, relaxing experience in your own familiar space.

You will sit comfortably and remain fully clothed. Your feet will be soaked in a foot spa using the finest bath salts for the feet. This will allow you to feel relaxed before the treatment commences. The therapist uses their hands to apply pressure to specific points, mainly in the feet. A session usually lasts 30-90 minutes and is deeply relaxing.

Most people feel relaxed and calm. Some feel energised, while others may feel tired. Occasionally, mild symptoms such as increased urination, thirst, or emotional release can occur-these usually pass within 24-48 hrs.

The number of sessions varies depending on the individual needs and the specific conditions being treated.
